  • 1793: May 21, 1793 – Timothy eats much.
  • 1792: May 21, 1792 – The cock missel-thrush sings on the tops of the tall firs.
  • 1787: May 21, 1787 – Mr Charles Etty returns from Canton.  He left England in March 1785, & sailed first for Bombay.  White-thorn bloom fragrant.
  • 1785: May 21, 1785 – The kidney-beans are cut down.  Potted several balsoms, a fine sort saved last year.
  • 1784: May 21, 1784 – Men bring up peat from the forest.
  • 1778: May 21, 1778 – Rooks bring their young out, after the chafers.
  • 1776: May 21, 1776 – Medlar blows: this is the most uncouth tree in its growth, the boughs never continuing streight for two feet together.
  • 1775: May 21, 1775 – Mr Yalden’s tank is dry.
  • 1774: May 21, 1774 – Apple-trees in fine bloom.  Began to tack some shoots of vines.  Few whitethroats this year.
  • 1772: May 21, 1772 – Fogs, shower.  Soaking shower.
  • 1770: May 21, 1770 – No flesh-flies yet.  Cartway runs.
  • 1769: May 21, 1769 – Musca meridiana.  This fly smells strongly of musk.  White owls have young.
  • 1768: May 21, 1768 – Lanius minor ruffus, red-backed butcher-bird, shot near the village.  It’s gizzard was full of the legs & parts of beetles.
