The Natural History of Selborne

Vast halo round the moon.  Began fires.

Saw pheasants at long coppice.  My well sinks much, & is very low.

Nep. Ben, & wife left us, & went to London.

Mr Churton came from Chesire.

Women make poor wages in their hop-picking.  Housed all my potatoes, & tyed-up many endives.

Gathered-in my early white pippins.

Lapwings leave the low grounds, & come to the uplands in flocks.  A pair of honey-buzzards, & a pair of wind-hovers appear to have young in the hanger.  The honey-buzzard is a fine hawk, & skims about in a majestic manner.

Cow-grass housed.  Gathered heaps of Cucumbers.

Mrs Brown brought to bed of a boy, who added to 49 before, encreased my nephews & nieces to the round number of 50.

Stone-curlews pass over followed by their young, which make a piping, wailing noise.
