Wood-pigeons appear in flocks. Ground very hard.

Moles work. The ground was very white in the morning. Ice bears.
The first great frost: the ground carries horse and man. Wheat comes up well.
Paths get firm and dry. Rooks frequent their nest-trees. People sow wheat again briskly.
Wells run over at the bottom of the village.
Lavants rise very fast at Farindon. and Chawton.
Thunder and hail. Incredible quantities of rain have fallen this week.
Vast floods. Vast rain & stormy wind all night.
