The Natural History of Selborne

Papilio Io appears within doors, & is very brisk.

Here & there a lamb.

Thunder, lightening & hail before day-break.  Hen chaffinches congregate.

Wood-pigeons abound in the fields.  Some lambs fall.

Roses bud in hothouses; french beans thrive: Ananas carry some late fruit.

Night phalaenae.  Flood.

Shell-less snails crawl forth.  Red-breast, hedge-sparrow, wren sing.  Worms come out on the turf by night.  Great rain.

Damp moist air.  Large broods of long-tailed titmice.

White water-wagtail appears.
