Bombylius medius: many appear down the long Lythe. Filed-crickets bask at the mouths of their holes: they seem to be yet in their pupa-state; as yet they show no wings.

Made an asparagus bed: that which was made last spring was spoiled for want of ran. Planted potatoes: sowed carrots.
Picturesque, partial fogs, looking like seas, islands, rivers, harbours, & c.!! Vivid auroras.
Small rain. Quick-set hedges begin to leaf. Dust is laid.
The roads in a most dusty, smothering condition.
