Potatoes for the first time. Thierteen swifts over the Lythe: seven at Harteley. Do they not at this season move from village to village? The hay is all badly spoiled; & men begin to fear that the wheat will grow as it stands. That which is lodged is in much danger. A fledged young swift was found alive on the ground in the church-yard: it was full of hippoboscae. We gave it two or three flies, & tossed it up on the church. Gathered one handful of kidney beans. The ground is quite glutted with rain.
