The Natural History of Selborne

A strong smell of London smoke.

Spread Mrs Etty’s coal-ashes on the bank, & other borders.

Sowed the great mead, & Baker’s Hill with a good dressing of ashes: of my own 31 bushels; bought 54.

Dug up the suckers of rose-trees, & planted them in a nursery.

Partridges, & missel-thrushes are paired.  Mr & Mrs Clement left us.

Mrs Edmd White was brought to bed of a boy, who makes my nephews & nieces 51 in number.

Full moon.  Barom. at Newton 28!  no wind.

Bror Thos & Molly White went to London.  Mr & Mrs Clemets & two children came, with Zebra, the Nurse-maid.

Turnip-tops come into eating.  The ground dries at a wonderous rate.

Mr Ch: Etty sailed for Bombay, & Canton aboard the Montrose India man in the capacity of third mate.  Later note:  He was delayed, & did not sail till the last week in March.
