The Natural History of Selborne

Bats appear, & many phalaenae.

Young lamb falls.

Brother & sister John arrived.

Earthed asparagus beds.  No ice yet.

A dead young rook, about half-grown was found in a nest on one of Mr Pink’s trees near his house.

Dark and spitting. Nasturtiums blow yet. Indian flowers in Decr! Song thrush sings.

Trimmed the vines.  Their shools were by no means good, nor well-ripened, notwithstanding the hot summer.

Vast rains in the night!  Some few grapes left on the vines.

Vast flocks of wild fowls in the forest.  They are probably migraters newly arrived.

At Mr. Pink’s at Faringdon is a rook’s nest with young in it.
