Glass rises violently. Planted a plot of cabbages to stand the winter. Wheat is sown.

Bat appears. Hedge-hogs cease to dig the walks.
Fine grey day. Fallows glutted with water, and full of weeds. Wells rise very fast.
People are now housing corn after 27 days interruption.
Fallows in a sad, wet, weedy condition: scarce any wheat sown.
French-beans are planted in the hot-house at Hartley. Pines are still cutting.
