An ash-coloured butcher-bird was shot this winter in Rotherfield Park: lanius seu collurio cintereus major: the only one I ever heard of in these parts.

Red-breasts and hedge-sparrows whistle.  Snow gone, save under hedges.  Ravens seem paired.
