The Natural History of Selborne

White dew.  Peaches ripen.  Barley begins to be cut.  Much wheat housed.

Cucumber plants begin to decline.  Tyed up endive.  Large showers about.

Much wheat bound up in the afternoon.  Goldfinch sings.  Oats are cutting.

Young gold-finches come forth.  Wheat in very bad condition.

White wheat begins to grow.  Plums ripe.

Martins continue to hatch new broods.  Flies begin to abound in the windows.

Young broods of goldfinches appear.

Sweet harvest weather.  Helleborus viridis begins to wither.  Brisk gale of wind.

Wheat harvest is pretty general.  The male and female flying ants, leaving their nests, fill the air.  See Gould on ants.

Young pheasants are flyers.  White butter-flies gather in flocks on the mud of puddles.
